Gianni Cracchiolo of Sal and Jerry's Bakery
In these times of social distancing, we at Three Village Market are opening ourselves up to you, so you can get to know us a little better. Each week, we’re going to take you “behind the mask” with a different TVM vendor, so that, even when our faces are covered, you won’t think of us as strangers at the farmers market.
Everyones story is different but each one of us has a story to tell.
This week we went behind the Scenes with Gianni of Sal and Jerry's Bakery
Our customers have been asking: “Why isn't Gianni at market and where are my beloved quiches?”
Well Gianni has been spending his days (and nights) in the kitchen pushing through an emotional time and brutal schedule since closing their Bensonhurst Bake Shop of 37-years 3-weeks ago.
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes and yesterday we spent the morning with Gianni at Sal and Jerry's Bakery bakery in Babylon. The kitchen was huge, with much of the production equipment brought back directly from Italy. It was fascinating meeting the team (it is truly a family affair) while everyone was focused on weighing, mixing, proofing, shaping, and finally baking many different items all at the same time. Oh, and the smells. I even can't begin to describe the smells wafting from the ovens and baking racks. By the end of the day we were able to add a new item to our online menu, their delicious Rainbow Cookies!
Gianni sends his regards to everyone and looks forward to being back at the market one day again soon BUT even if he himself is not with us, Sal & Jerry’s luscious freshly baked goods will be waiting for you on Fridays, baked by Gianni himself and of course the family/team.
